Our team is experiencing exciting growth within our established practice and we have a need for a General Roads Inspector/Materials Tester to join our team in Yakima, WA. This person will inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure that contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Perform work related to transportation engineering activities such as laboratory tests, design data collection, construction record-keeping and traffic control inspection. Employee at this level performs work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Employee may be expected to work nights and weekends.
Observe performance of work activities on the project and document activities, work accomplishments and events
Report field conditions
Observe safety conditions
Perform on-site and off-site inspections
Coordinate and monitor on-going field testing
Recommend rejection of defective material and workmanship
Write field notes, calculate quantities and complete inspector’s daily reports.
Monitor and document compliance with project permit conditions, environmental issues and water discharge requirements
Witness and document the contractor's quality control activities including inspections and testing.
Interpret information contained in: contract plans, WSDOT construction Manual, Standard Specifications, and Standard Plans.
Take samples and perform tests related to surfacing, paving, structures, earthwork, drainage and miscellaneous items.
Know the WSDOT Construction Manual requirements, how to take and interpret field tests, interact with other inspectors and contractors, perform documentation requirements and reporting procedures.
Essential Functions: Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
Minimum of 3 years of Field Quality Assurance/Control experience is required
Familiar with local agency and Washington State Standard Plans and Specifications and best management practices and WSDOT Construction Manual (M41-01) is required.

Brovold Gyratory Compactor
Barnstead Thermoline Ignition Furnace
A manual or mechanical Sand Equivalency Shaker
Troxler 3430 and/or 3450 Nuclear Moisture / Density Gauge
Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction (WAQTC) Certification or the ability to get the WAQTC certification is required.
