Summary: The Respiratory Therapist provides care by order of a physician or through protocols approved by the Medical Staff to patients with heart and lung ailments such as cardiac failure, asthma, pulmonary edema, emphysema, COPD, cerebral thrombosis, drowning, hemorrhage, shock, respiratory distress, and post-op life support. The Respiratory Therapist helps in restoring adequate ventilation and cardiopulmonary function to patients suffering from cardiopulmonary arrest. Respiratory therapists are also responsible for monitoring patients and their responses to therapy being administered. By use of protocols the therapist modifies and or discontinues the patient s therapy plan as appropriate. The therapists also provide education to patients, their families and other co-workers as needed
Education: Completion of a High School education or equivalent. Graduate of an AMA accredited Associates Degree Program in Respiratory Care or the equivalent. Must have a current license in the state of RI and must be nationally Certified or certification eligible, and hold a valid license from the State of Rhode Island.
Experience:* Prior experience preferred. Will train new graduate of an AMA approved Respiratory Care Program, but employee will be required to pass boards and obtain State of Rhode Island license.*
