Our region is growing, and TriMet is growing with it! As our system looks to the future, we require new routes to serve our recently arriving residents, new tracks to take them to and from work and home, and updated vehicles with all the latest in technology. As a Project Manager on our Rail Equipment Maintenance (REM) team, you will direct a complete midlife overhaul on some of our most senior vehicles, and manage the purchase process, refurbishment, and implementation of these vehicles back into regular service.

We are searching for someone with a strong background in engineering and project management, with experience working in a deadline-driven environment. You need to be familiar working on projects from cradle to grave, and bring your skills in process improvement, design, and understanding of mechanical engineering, preferably working with large vehicles.


Provide services related to TriMet's rail vehicles and electrical control systems. This includes work related to the overhaul and maintenance of light rail vehicles, including their electrical and mechanical systems and components.

Review and approve product and systems submittals for compliance with contract requirements and TriMet design criteria.

Develop, design, and produce criteria, engineering standards, requirements, specifications, and drawings for all aspects of rail vehicle engineering.

Evaluate and prepare modifications to rail vehicles, including justifying the functional feasibility, validating the design and impact on corresponding vehicle systems, and evaluating impacts to vehicle reliability.

Serve as a leader in the administration of contracts relating to the LRV mid-life overhaul. Coordinate with consultants and other internal and external stakeholders as needed.

Coordinate contractor work to ensure proper scheduling of activities and to ensure minimal impact to on-going TriMet light rail operations.

Witness and document testing of various rail vehicle systems and equipment. Troubleshoot problems which occur during testing.

Supervise or coordinate the work of consultants, engineering technicians, drafters and other support staff as required for specific assignments, and within the guidelines provided by the Engineering Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

Professional registration from the State of Oregon.

A minimum of eight years of experience as a competent, practicing engineer, including three years of experience in an area directly applicable to vehicle engineering, inspection, or construction is required.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience in light rail maintenance, or light rail manufacturing.

Experience in the management or supervision of engineering or maintenance staff.

Salary Range:

Minimum: $76,702.00

Maximum: $105,000.00
