Brown-Forman Senior Brand Manager - Non-Whisky & Agency Brands - Contract Position in Sydney, Australia

Job Description:

Please note - This is a contract position (approximately 10 months). As a result, only candidates with right to work in Australia immediately will be considered.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead the overall strategy for the assigned brand(s) – be the main contact for select programs and expressions

  • Coach and develop the Non-Whisky and Jagermeister Brand Managers to develop their marketing and leadership skills and experience

  • Assist in the development of other team members through sharing of marketing expertise and leading by example.

  • Develop and lead strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Lead the knowledge of brand assets and its relevance to the local market and communicate adequately to other key areas of the business

Brand and Innovation Strategy

  • Lead the development and approval of annual and three year brand plans.

  • Liaise with local, regional and global brand executives to ensure that brand plans adhere to local & global strategy

  • Devise and manage brand objectives, strategies and promotional programs in line with local & global brand strategies

  • Lead the briefing, development and approval process for any local creative or global creative adaptations

  • Lead development, approval process and implementation of key brand programs through the line

  • Partner with our Activation teams to ensure brand programs and activities are fully integrated through the line and communicated to the field sales teams

  • Provide leadership of agency relationships with creative, media and BTL agencies to build and implement agreed creative strategy and media plans

  • Oversee negotiations for any sponsorship proposals and agreements to the benefit of the brands

Commercial management

  • Oversee and manage the varying brand’s P&L’s and take brand ownership of our pricing and discounting strategies.

  • Spend time in the trade to understand practical implementation of all marketing promotional activities.

  • Liaise with sales staff on the execution of marketing plans in the field, and review the effectiveness of all marketing activities.

  • Conduct full marketing evaluations and make recommendations for any changes that might benefit the brand.

  • Monitor brand performance against sales forecasts. Determine corrective action where necessary in conjunction with sales counterparts.

  • Manage the full A&P budgets for the brands including regular meeting with finance and budget owners to track spend

Organizational networking

  • Be ‘the face of the brands’ to all internal and external stakeholders

  • Work with National Account Managers to develop the joint business plan to sell in the brands

  • Facilitate, lead collaboration and take key stakeholders throughout the organization “on the journey” for key programs and strategic initiatives

  • Work with the Portfolio Planning and Insights team to measure and review all relevant research data information into development of brand building activities which build equity whilst driving sustainable and profitable sales targets

Qualifications & Requirements

Must Requirements:

  • Marketing related tertiary qualification

  • Marketing related role in a FMCG company – 7 - 10 years’ experience in FMCG industry, preferably spirits / image products. Experience and (operational) responsibility in ATL and BTL

  • Experience in driving the overall communications plan including TTL activities

  • Experience in management role/leadership role

  • Strong commercial background and experience - Be able to build comprehensive business cases for product investments; modelling volumes, price, channel margin, product COGS, development effort, and manufacturing costs - in collaboration with respective functions

  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills. Able to translate insight into new ideas and strategies and recommend changes as he/she deems fit for growth.

  • Passion for brands and able to translate this into “ambassador” type of attitude and behavior to the sales managers and retail.

  • A team player with excellent interpersonal skills, persuasive, and able to build strong working relationships (local and international).

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in trade marketing or consumer insights/commercial role

  • Experience in liquor industry

  • Experience in a multi-national company
