Kforce Software Engineer in Sacramento, California

Kforce has a client seeking a Software Engineer in Sacramento, California (CA).As an important new addition to the software development team supporting the back-end content systems for the company, you will:

  • Work in a collaborative, open, laid back environment

  • Be responsible for data mining and machine learning exercises to facilitate the normalization and indexing of legal content (Legislation, Statutes, Caselaw, etc.)

  • Come to recognize opportunities for process & code improvement as you -learn the ropes-

Depending on performance and business needs, we might decide to convert you to a full-time employee. Specifically, that would mean you demonstrate the following while working as a contractor:

  • You are, in most respects, the person described in the -About You- section of this document

  • You perform well while executing what is described in the -What you will be doing as a contractor- section

  • You are able, curious about and perhaps even hungry for what is described in -What you will be doing as an employee- section

  • You have the skills listed in the -Required Skills- section

  • You are willing and able to learn many of the skills described in the -Desired Skills- section

  • 3-5 years of software development experience

  • Background in data mining, data science, machine learning (particularly text classification), Natural Language Processing (NLP)

  • Strong verbal, written and some visual (e.g. diagramming, flowcharting) communication skills

  • Experience developing in and scripting your development processes in Linux

  • Experience with multiple scripting languages, preferably Python

  • A firm grasp on using Regular Expressions or XPATH to accomplish data mining exercises; preferably exposure to both

  • A solid understanding of object oriented programming (OOP) principles

  • Intermediate-to-advanced understanding of SQL and relational databases

Desirable Skills:

  • Object Oriented Design Patterns (Dependency Injection, Factory, Abstract Factory, etc.)

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) exposure

  • Agile/Scrum/Kanban exposure

  • Exposure to XML parsing (SAX, DOM, XSLT, etc.) and generation/serialization
