_Job Summary_

Performs direct and indirect patient care in collaboration with RN or Physician. Assumes responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating and collaborating with the team to meet the physical and emotional needs of the patient. Orders, receives and stocks supplies for the department/unit. Assists support staff with filing, medical records and daily tasks as assigned. Provides support for the Critical Care Techs and other support staff.

  • Two years of experience as a Critical Care Tech/EMT in a hospital emergency department preferred Previous leadership

  • Current Colorado Emergency Medical Technician-Basic with IV Certification or A-EMT or EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic license required.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for HealthCare Providers certification required from American Heart Association required.

  • Provides leadership, support and coordination to Critical Care Tech staff. *

  • May participate in the interviewing and selection process. Responsible for orienting, training and mentoring staff and students. Able to perform, demonstrate and train staff on processes, procedures and equipment. *

  • Provides feedback and recommendations regarding staff performance. *

  • Assists in directing, organizing and prioritizing all shift activities ensuring patient care and staff needs are met. Assures effective daily operation of the team. *

  • May conduct audits regarding documentation and assist with data collection. Problem solves immediate issues that may negatively impact patient care. *

  • Assists leadership in identifying, developing and implementing process improvement initiatives. *

  • Performs a variety of technical tasks (i.e. IV insertion, splinting, wound care, etc.) as directed by the RN or physician according to established clinic policies, procedures and standards to provide quality patient care within hospital and/or department guidelines. *

  • Provides person-centered care with sensitivity and respect for the human experience in a collaborative fashion with other team members. Assists care team in achieving daily patient and family goals. *

  • Communicates with RN and Physician regarding patient/family observations in an ongoing fashion to assist in the treatment of patients. Communicates concerns regarding hazards or errors related to patients to the health care team. *

  • Demonstrates effective use of clinical strategies to insure patient and associate safety. Uses Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation (SBAR) communication techniques. *

  • Collaborates with medicine, nursing and other health care professionals regarding plan of care, follow-up and evaluation for the patient and family. *

  • Accurately and timely documents all tasks, observations, and procedures performed on the patient record according to medical and legal standards. Maintains thorough and confidential maintenance of patient charts and records. *

  • Performs unit secretary functions as needed, such as order entry, placing consult calls, bed admission requests, and acknowledging orders. *

  • Communicates with colleagues and allied personnel regarding patient care to maintain continuity of care between departments and care providers. *

  • Facilitates room turnover and cleaning rooms between patients, stocking trays and carts/linen, and exchanging oxygen tanks. Ensures that work environment and patient rooms are neat and orderly to enhance unit and hospital image. Assists with tracking unit equipment such as monitors, gurneys, wheelchairs, etc. *

  • Effectively uses time, personnel, equipment and supplies to provide high quality, cost effective patient care and monitoring. Organizes and prioritizes work to be completed within assigned timeframe to promote consistent patient comfort. *

  • Maintains thorough and confidential maintenance of patient charts and records. *

  • Uses standards of care, hospital policies/procedures and regulatory guidelines to guide work. *

  • Consistently demonstrates flexibility as evidenced by floating to other areas and is agreeable to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, evening and night hours as necessary to meet the needs of the patients and department. *
