The OPS Maintenance Generalist I is responsible for the general maintenance of all facilities owned and/or managed by the University of Florida College of Dentistry (UFCD) to ensure that facilities and equipment used by the UFCD are properly maintained, clean, and safe. Applicants must be knowledgeable in commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the maintenance field. Clinics are located throughout the State of Florida and the candidate must remain available to travel (to St. Petersburg, Naples, and Miami, currently). This position reports to the UFCD Facilities Manager.
Specific duties include:
Minor Electrical, Plumbing, Painting and Carpentry. Basic maintenance work in a clinical setting. Maintain the college’s plumbing plaster traps.
Inspect dental units and initiate work orders as necessary based upon personal observation in the Dental sciences building and clinics located in (Hialeah, FL), (Seminole, FL) and (Naples, FL); required presence at off-site clinical labs on an as needed basis.
Evaluate and troubleshoot the maintenance needs of the UFCD’s Pre-clinical Simulation Laboratory.
Inventory, order, and stock replacement parts and equipment for 17 emergency oxygen regulators and tanks; required daily checks and notations in equipment log before patient care begins.
Prepare units and related equipment for Florida State Dental Board Examinations; provide maintenance assistance during the board process. The Board exams may take place on weekends and some holidays.
Accept delivery of packages and maintain accurate records of items received from UPS, Fed-X, Airborne, and other purveyors. Deliver packages to various locations within the UFCD, maintaining an accurate log of arrival, delivery, and acceptance, while being conscientious about timely delivery and value of property.
Will use the following equipment regularly: hand tools, plumbing tools, computer and related accessories, pneumatic gages, drill press, and skill saw.
Assist with cannibalizing and surveying obsolete equipment.
Performs other related duties (as required).
A high school diploma (or equivalent) and 2 years of experience in service and repair work involving the skills of two or more trades. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Must have a valid Florida Class E operator (driver) license.
Special Instructions to Applicants:
Work schedule is generally Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for a total of 40 hours. Position calls for variations in workweek, schedule and travel (as needed). Applicants must be able to lift up to 60 pounds, climb, reach overhead frequently, and ability to bend and pick up equipment or tools from floor level.
