eBay is seeking an experienced Database Marketing Manager for the role of Head of Global Database Marketing within its Global Growth business unit. This person will drive all aspects of eBay’s Database Marketing operations, including the day to day targeting activities, in close collaboration with the regional Marketing, Analytics & Customer Insights teams, the continuous process and tool optimization that are necessary to run Database Marketing Operations successfully, with increased efficiency over time, as well as define and shape the future of Targeting Science overall at eBay.

This is a highly demanding and visible role in which the successful candidate will shape eBay’s Global Database Marketing Operations and ensure its continuous optimization.

This position will be based in Prague, Czech Republic, with occasional need for international travel.

Job Responsibilities

The position holder will be responsible for and lead a team of 30+ team members, responsible for all Database Marketing Operations supporting Marketing Initiatives for eBay’s Marketing teams globally (US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, Australia, …), across all Marketing Channels (Onsite Marketing, Email marketing, Display, Coupons, …) Specifically, this person will:

  • Oversee the end-to-end campaign delivery process and day-to-day execution of highly targeted multi-channel regional, as well as CRM marketing campaigns.

  • Act as liaison between marketing and technology team to provide forward-looking product requirement to expand campaign management capabilities.

  • Champion process improvements within the Global Database Marketing team and throughout the sphere of influence, to gain efficiencies in campaign execution processes.

  • Collaborate with Business Units and Marketing Managers to ensure that the most appropriate targeting is leveraged: propensity modelling, machine learning, and behavioural targeting.

  • Together with the Analytics and Customer insights teams, define and develop a set of world class experimentation, reporting and monitoring mechanisms, providing actionable data points to continuously optimize the campaigns the team is supporting.

  • Maintain a continuous testing loop to maximize program efficacy.

  • Develop and maintain a backlog of improvement opportunities to keep the program ahead of customer expectations, leading to state of the art targeting capabilities.

  • Work closely with the Global Lead for Technical Infrastructure, the Product Management and Engineering teams, on the continuous improvement of eBay’s Database Marketing/Targeting technology, tools and processes. Represent customer and business perspectives throughout the process.

  • Manage critical issues through to resolution.

  • Lead a team of 30+ dynamic and technical database marketing professionals.

  • Maintain and regularly share a detailed overview of the teams’ resource levels, in line with the agreed support level needed to deliver the campaigns reflected in the marketing calendar, share progress on projects and/or innovations driven by the team, as well as in depth stakeholder expectations management.

  • Balance support requests vs. available resources, ensuring that quality + quantity output are balanced with the needs of the team for work-life balance.

  • Support the development of the team - including assisting talent acquisition, coaching, development and performance appraisal.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 12 years’ experience working in Database Marketing Operations or CRM campaign management.

  • 5+ years hands-on technical experience with SQL (Teradata preferred), databases design, data warehousing.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing a large team of 20+ members.

  • Working knowledge of customer segmentation, propensity modelling, and behavioural insights across 100+ million customer base.

  • Extensive experience working with at least one campaign management or business intelligence/reporting tools: Unica, Aprimo or other campaign management or marketing automation tools.

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, being familiar with test design and measurement methodology, as well as with sharp strategic thinking and ability to translate quantitative & qualitative consumer data/insights into a strong targeted marketing strategy.

  • Must be a proven top performer that enjoys challenging assignments in a dynamic and fast growing workplace, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.

  • Proven experience of managing and delivering highly complex projects, working across multiple cross-functional teams, geographies and management levels, often getting “buy-in” from multiple stakeholders and partnering with senior executives.

  • Has demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships, previous experience in matrixed organization strongly preferred.

  • Output focused, with aptitude to manage multiple projects simultaneously and drive towards results. Demonstrated organizational, planning and time management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and innovatively, with an independent, self-starter approach to work and a proven track record of operational excellence.

  • Adept at managing through ambiguity and practicing judgment to drive clarity.

  • Fun, energetic and collaborative personality with a positive outlook, a driven and detail-oriented nature and the drive to excel and thrive in an exciting, fast-paced environment.

  • A leader with people management experience, managerial maturity and proven track record of hiring and developing top performers.

Skills and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.

  • Highly numerate, possessing superior analytical skills.

  • Profound technical understanding of online operations works (content management systems, email delivery platforms, segmentation, targeting, tracking, serving technologies, etc.).

  • Detail-oriented, highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Superior project management, team management and agency management skills.

  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities.

  • Team player who works well with people in other countries and from different cultures.

  • Ability to identify and understand peer and customer needs, build and maintain strong working relationships.

  • Thrives in a fast-paced unstructured environment with multiple competing priorities while working with minimal supervision.

  • Highly developed verbal, written and presentation skills with a keen eye for detail.

  • A comfortable public speaker with experience of representing groups in public forums.
