Position Overview

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Social Work at North Carolina Central University’s mission is to prepare undergraduate students to become generalist social work practitioners and to prepare graduate students to become leaders in the delivery of culturally competent services across multiple systems. The program provides a curriculum and experiential opportunities that promote social, economic, and environmental justice. The Department of Social Work is committed to serving African American students, which is consistent with the history and mission of North Carolina Central University, while embracing the diversity of the larger student population.

Primary Purpose of Position

The purpose of this assistant/associate professor position will be to teach 12 (four courses) credit hours in the undergraduate and/or graduate programs each semester, serve as an advisor to students, and contribute to the development of the Department of Social Work as needed, serve on admission committees for the traditional two year program option and advanced standing program option, scholarships, and community service.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The applicant should have excellent oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills, The ability to work independently and in organized groups are expected. Prefer teaching experience in research methods, evaluation, and statistics. The applicant should be familiar with CSWE EPAS competencies and practice behaviors, assessments and outcomes, as well as basic computer skills, and statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS).

Minimum Education/Experience

PhD in social work (or related area) from an accredited college or university, MSW degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), and two years post MSW degree work experience are required. Applicants who are ABD who plan to complete doctoral work within one year of hire will be considered.
